One of the problems shooting moving objects and auto-focus is, if the AF misses, the lens goes to infinity and then will hunt for a focus, but you can no longer see the object, so it will keep hunting. It took me several hours over a couple of days to find the perfect spot, a wall of reeds 8' high, I just sat about 12' away facing them and waited. Now these species of dragonflys are very curious and will come around to check you out and will hover right in front of your face, but with my lens, it needs to be aleast 6' away to focus, just had to wait for the right one to come along. If the AF missed it hit the reeds, but I could still see a blury dragonfly and focused again, till it caught. Sorry for the long story, but I don't know how to tell it any shorter -- "Only when the last tree has withered, and the last fish caught, and the last river been poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money."........cheers Hey Ernie, with my one ever dragon fly shot - I had to get it my using manual focus - I simply could not get the auto focus to focus on the dragon fly, even when it was stationary on a piece of reed stuff, so, the only way I was able to do it was my switching to manual focus. I don't know yet if you can get them in flight by manual focus....but that constant hunting was driving me
